I’ll leave that answer to you.
Cleaning your hot tub is essential for good water quality and the longevity of your investment. Depending on the time of year, your tub will start to get stagnant and slimy. This can take 1-2 weeks or longer in cooler months. We recommend that your tub is rinsed with fresh water every month (at the very least), if you are frequently using your hot tub then fortnightly may be more appropriate.
To clean the inside of your hot tub;
It is essential that there is always at least 200mm of water in the bottom of your tub. This is important to maintain a watertight joint for your hot tub. When the base of your tub is constantly saturated it forms a nice tight seal and reduces the risk of the timber cracking or splitting. When timber is exposed to vastly different environments i.e. wet, dry, hot, and cold it swells, contracts, stretches, and warps. This is not ideal for a cedar hot tub and will dramatically reduce the lifetime of your tub.
Always keep at least 200mm of water in your tub. Ideally, leave the tub at least 1/2 full.
When it comes time for you to use it again simply empty the old water and follow the steps to clean the inside of your tub.
Once clean, refill with water, and your tub is ready for use!
If left untouched, your hot tub will soon start to silver and dry out. To maintain the rich vibrant color of Cedar and to maximize the life time of your tub we recommend applying stain at the very least once a year. Ideally 6 monthly.
Your new tub will come with 2 coats of CD50 wood stain. This is one of the best products on the market and we highly recommend continual use of this product.
When it comes time to stain your hot tub:
Yes. we offer a 4-year warranty with all our Sulis hot tubs. This covers our craftsmanship and is subject to terms and conditions.
When first filled with water, a brand new Sulis Hot Tub will leak, and leak, and leak some more. Sulis hot tubs are designed this way, much like a wine barrel an old wooden bucket, or a wooden ship. When the new timber is exposed to water it begins to swell and expand. This expansion pushes outwards on the stainless steel tension bands which then causes the joins in the tub to close up. After the first 2-3 days your tub will only have a handful of areas that are dropping water. This may take up to 2-3 weeks to close up all the gaps and create a sealed hot tub. Heating your hot tub will rapidly speed up this process and encourage the timber to swell faster.
Once sealed, it is important to always leave your hot tub 1/4 full or at the very least with about 200mm of water. This ensures that the critical joint between the base and the sides of the tub is always expanded and will have a water-tight seal for longer.
